If you follow me on Twitter, you might have noticed (been grateful) I’ve been a little quiet lately. Rather than posting nitwittery dozens of times per day, over the last couple of weeks my output has slowed to a trickle. In the days and weeks to follow, I’ll continue to be quieter than usual.
There are a couple of reasons. The first is that I’m gearing up for the exciting adventure of having my guts hacked open and re-assembled, hopefully in better shape than before. This fun event goes down later this week and will leave me mewling and whimpering for a while. On the plus side, there will be pain medication. On the minus side, there will be holes in my abdomen.
Of course, if I do Tweet during my recuperation, the results might be extra entertaining and/or unsettling. But probably I won’t be online much. Maybe I’ll Instagram photos of my wounds, because everyone loves that sort of thing, right?
In general, though, aside from the surgery, I will be spending less time on social media. I’ve already been taking breaks, not for any serious reason, but because I find too much Internet interferes with my ability to get things done. And by things, I don’t just mean work or writing, but stuff like reading books or staring blankly into space while I ponder whatever needs pondering. I’ve found I need a little breathing room, so I’m giving it to myself. This doesn’t mean I’ll be silent for days or weeks on end, just that I won’t be as noisy as I’m wont to be.
So get ready for pictures of the aftermath of medical procedures! Ha-ha?
